Dual Enrollment

Dual enrollment provides Piedmont High School students the opportunity to take community college classes while in high school on our high school campus (most of the time). These classes are advanced in nature, providing coursework beyond what is offered by Piedmont High School Staff and are not designed to replace high school graduation requirements.

The list of dual enrollment courses considered for the 2025-2026 school year are listed in the Google Doc version of the Course Catalog, pages 47 - 49.

Piedmont High School staff will assist students and parents with this process but it should be made clear that these are college classes and students will be treated as college students.

As such, the following should be noted:

  • Add and drop deadlines, including dropping with and without a “W” will be strictly dependent on the deadlines imposed by the community college for which the course being taken is articulated with.
  • Access to student progress, including grades, will not be available to school staff or parents. As college students, only they will be able to see/monitor their grades.
  • Most/all coursework at the college level is done via the student management system Canvas. This includes communications with professors, assignments, meetings (if done virtually), etc.
  • Dual enrollment courses will follow the college calendar for which the courses are articulated
    • Classes are typically 16 weeks.
    • Spring break at the college level does not typically align with Piedmont High School. As such, students should be cognizant of attendance requirements should they take a dual enrollment course.

  • Services related to Special Education do not matriculate to the college level. Piedmont High School does not have authority in this space post-high school. We can put students in touch with the college and the SAS (Student Accessibility Services) office at the pertinent community college for which the course is being articulated with.
  • 504 Services may be different at the college level. Piedmont High School does not have authority in this space post-high school. We can put students in touch with the college and the SAS (Student Accessibility Services) office at the pertinent community college for which the course is being articulated with.

  • Most fees are waived including but not limited to, tuition, enrollment, transportation, and student representation fees. The college may impose a health service fee and parking fee (optional).
  • Students are responsible for textbook costs. Prices can range from $0 (professors that participate in ZTC-zero textbook cost-program) to over $100 per class, per semester.
  • Dual enrollment courses are considered “closed” to students of Piedmont High School, so long as enrollment targets are met.
    • Should Piedmont High School not meet the enrollment targets, the college may open enrollment to the public.
  • Dual enrollment courses will likely be offered during the last period of the day (6th or 7th period).
    • They typically follow college format–90 minutes to 2 hours, twice a week.
      • 5 unit courses may meet more frequently/longer
    • As such, dual enrollment classes may run on T/Th or W/F.
